Common opener problems
- The remote or wall control does not operate the door
- The opener runs but the door does not move
- The door stops partway or reverses when closing
- Safety sensors indicate a problem
- The opener is noisy or works intermittently
Make a note of the opener brand, model number and any flashing lights if they are safely visible. Let us know whether the problem happens with the remote, wall control or both.
The door itself matters
An opener cannot compensate for a damaged or unbalanced door. Broken springs, damaged cables and track problems can make an opener appear faulty. If the door is crooked, unusually heavy or has damaged hardware, stop using it and ask about garage door repair.
Do not bypass safety sensors or hold down controls to force a damaged door to operate. Keep the opening clear while waiting for service.
Choosing a replacement opener
Discuss your door size, available ceiling space, noise preferences and any features you want, such as additional remotes, a keypad or connected controls. Compatibility and feature availability depend on the door and opener model. We can help you compare appropriate options for the installation.

Common questions
My door closes partway then goes back up. Why?
That is most often the safety sensors near the floor: knocked out of alignment, dirty, or with something breaking the beam. It can also be a close-travel limit that has drifted, or an obstruction in the track. Check the sensor lights first.
Chain drive or belt drive?
Belt drives run noticeably quieter, which matters when a bedroom sits above or beside the garage. Chain drives are the durable, lower-cost choice and are usually fine for a detached garage or shop where noise does not matter.
My remote stopped working but the wall button still works.
Usually a dead remote battery or a remote that has lost its pairing with the opener. If new batteries and re-programming do not fix it, the opener's receiver or antenna may be at fault.
